4th day - 20th August 2017
Location: Kundasang & Kota Kinabalu
Early morning, before the sun rises, we were already up and about packing to go back, and to watch the sunrise.
After checked out at 8.00 am, we continued our journey to the Kinabalu Park, not far from our accommodation. You can easily see the signboard of the park on the way up to Kundasang. (In our case, going down). There is also a small cafe in opposite the park, which makes it easier for us to get a light breakfast (we had hot drinks and some buttered toasts and half-boiled eggs for less than RM 5.00 each)
Kinabalu Park entrance ticket - Free
Phone: +60 88-523 500
There are also chalets here for tourists, and it is the starting point for Mount Kinabalu hikers. We can clearly see the top of the mountain without any fogs, which makes it special. Of course, this can be accomplish if you arrive before 10.00 am.
On our way back to the city, we stopped by the original legendary Jambatan Gantung Tamparuli (The hanging bridge of Tamparuli) and it has been built for more than 200 years ago. The locals and Sabah Tourism has kept the bridge in good condition until today.
It is easily access, without having to pay for anything, and it is located right beside Rumah Terbalik Tamparuli. Be careful when you're standing on the bridge, it is said there are plenty of crocodiles in the river below!
We also made a detour and stopped by the Sahbandar Cowboy Town located at Tuaran. Just like its name, the entertainment park is a cowboy theme small town with horse stables, lodging, and a bar.
It's very small, but if you want to take your kids to see the horses, it's perfect for you. They groom and take care a lot of breed of horses, from ponies to racing horses. For RM 2.00, you may feed the horses too.
Sahbandar Cowboy Town entrance fees: RM 10.00 / person (comes with a free drink)
Opening hours: 8AM–6PM
Address: Jalan Sulaman, 89200 Tuaran, Sabah, Malaysia
They also have a few features that might be perfect for an instagram photo. And you may enjoy a ride with the horses with a payment of RM 10.00. But is it worth it to pay form RM 10.00? I'd say nah. If it costs like around RM 3.00-5.00, I might say it's good.
And besides, it's a blazing hot day! Especially when we were there, it was like 12pm or something.
So, if it's 1.00 pm, of course it's time for lunch! We decided to try the local Lokan Panggang (roasted lokan) and Kelapa Bakar (roasted coconut). At first I was not really keen to try, but seeing they look like clams, I gave it a shot and surprisingly, it tastes good! More so when you add the sauce dip!
The Kelapa Bakar is not bad either. They filled the coconut with coconut jelly and roasted it until it gave off a slightly burned coconut. It is known as exotic Sabah food, so you should try it when you come here to Sabah.
There are a lot of food stalls that sell these food, so you may choose it on your will. There is no specific place of the stalls, so just google maps or WAZE "Lokan Bakar" and it will bring you to the place. The stalls are located right beside the road.
After that, we went back to Kota Kinabalu and stopped by the Sabah State Mosque for jamak prayer. The mosque is big and beautiful, with middle-eastern architecture.
We still had plenty of time to waste before going off to the airport, so we stopped by Pantai Tanjung Aru to wind down.
Spending time there while talking and eating junk food, it's like time has stop for a while. The airport is less than 6 minutes away, so we hang there until the sun went down.
Last call for flight to KLIA2 from KKIA, we said goodbye to our newly-found friend who has brought us everywhere in Sabah, and to our unforgettable journey on this land below the wind.
