The trip came as a surprise. I can't even recall what we were talking about when suddenly my friend from work said "Let's go to Yogjakarta." and I said "With whom? I don't know your friends," and she gestured towards all my colleagues from work around our breakfast table and said, "You don't know them?"
In short, they were already talking about going and all I have to do is confirm it.
Later that day, we already booked 4 flight ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Yogjakarta.
Flight Ticket AirAsia (return) KL-YOG-KL = MYR 240 / pax
Later in the week, we searched for accommodation and at everyone's delight, we booked two rooms at Rumah Mertua Boutique Hotel.
2 rooms / 3 nights (inc. breakfast) = IDR 2,700,000 / 4 pax
We had fantastic and delicious breakfast every morning before we head out. Apart from the breakfast, they also served side dishes such as fruits and kuih-muih. We also got unlimited coffee and tea. Pretty room as well complete with all the necessities and a swimming pool! The staffs are very helpful and respectful and it's a very quiet and peaceful hotel as well despite it located in the middle of the city. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who is planning to stay at Yogjakarta. There's a reason why it get high rating in booking as well!

Rumah Mertua Boutique Hotel & Restaurant
Since I got to plan it, of course I'm going to try to fit in as many places as possible. There are some places that we didn't get to go because of time restriction (all the places are so far away! We had to travel over 2 hours to get to certain places.) but we did go to a lot of places and it was so fun.
Now let's start!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 1 (25 Feb 2018):- Depart from KLIA2 for a 7am flight
- Arrive at Adisutjipto International Airport
- We hired a driver (or what the Indonesian called 'supir') to drive us around the city.
Driver + petrol for 4 days = IDR 2,500,000 / 4 pax - Check-in Hotel
- Lunch
- I forgot the name of the restaurant but we can ride a some-kind of 'boat' (pull by the staffs) and eat at an outdoor gazebo near a big fish pond. It serves delicious seafood in javanese style. - Prambanan Temple
- We bought entrance ticket to Borobudur Temple as well. But since the closing time is near, we planned for the Borobudur trip in the next day.
Prambanan+Borobudur Entrance Ticket (regular, no sunrise) = IDR 560,000
- Malioboro Street & Pancake Hunting
- This is a shopping paradise for people who is looking for a good 'batik' and plenty of souvenirs, as well as several food stalls. The prices are negotiable however be extra careful and cautious as there is a lot of people there so you should hold on to your bags tight!
- Indonesia is famous with pancake so we went for pancake hunting for dinner.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 2 (26 Feb 2018):- Borobudur Temple
- We suggest to go there early morning or even at sunrise. It is located at a hill and the scenery was breathtaking! Please note that you have to climb a long, long, long stairs to get to the top.
- Timang Beach
- Yogjakarta is famous with Timang Beach, the beach that is far separated from the land and has to ride a gondola to reach there. We didn't ride the gondola for reasons, but we did get many amazing pictures with it.
- To reach there, you either ride 'ojek' (or motorcycle) or a jeep because the road to the beach is difficult and normal vehicles couldn't reach there. It's better to ride a jeep but we decided to go with 'ojek' and even though it was honestly scary (imagine riding at a back of a motorcycle while going through rocky roads and up a hill), but it was memorable and brings many funny stories to be told. And no, you don't ride the 'ojek' alone, you have a rider who drove it.
- Ojek: IDR 50,000 / pax
- Jeep: IDR 300,000 or IDR 250,000 / per jeep depending on your negotiation.
- Rice Bridge Sukorame
- Sadly we only stopped by the side of the road in here. The paddy field surrounding the bridge has been reaped and it looked yellowy and wet so we skipped it. It was supposed to look like below picture but when we arrived it was no longer green.

- Hutan Pinus Mangunan
- The entrance ticket was free, but we had to pay for insurance fees when we enter
Fee: IDR 10,000 / pax
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 3 (27 Feb 2018):- Gunung Merapi Jeep Adventure
- There are four package to choose from, and we chose Package C, Medium Jeep Package.
- There will be a tour guide that would drive the jeep and give you detailed explanations of the history and occurrences of Merapi Mountain.
Package C (Medium) Gunung Merapi = IDR 350,000 / 4 pax
- Chicken Church
- As the name suggests, it was a church built in the shape of a chicken. Why? Well, you can know all about it when you arrive there as they provided many information for you to read at the church hall.
- It is now called Prayer House for All religions instead of Chicken Church (Gereja Ayam)
- Please note that you have to walk across a river and climb a hill for about 15 minutes to reach to the church, The view is spectacular so I promised you it would not be a waste of energy!
Entrance Fees: IDR 30,000 / pax (inc. light snacks)
- You can redeem delicious light snacks at the cafe at the second floor with the tickets.
- The House of Raminten
- We stop by here for a late lunch. The Javanese vibe was very strong in this restaurant, but the food was very delicious.
- Amanda Brownies
- Indonesia is also famous for brownies (or kek kukus). Depending on your choice, the price range can be from IDR 20,000 to 30,000 / box - Malioboro Street
- Last minute souvenir shopping.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 4 (28 Feb 2018):
- Breakfast, swim at the swimming pool, packing
- Check-out Hotel
- Depart to Adisutjipto International Airport
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The places that we missed because of time constraint:
- Kalibiru National Park
- Gumuk Pasir
- Taman Sari (9am-3pm)
